Why recipe reels are so hard to cook from

Most recipe reels move fast: the quantities flash on screen for a second, the method is spoken once over music, and the caption says “recipe below” and then doesn't include it. Saving the reel keeps the video, not the recipe — so when you're finally standing in the kitchen you end up pausing and scrubbing through it with floury hands.

What the recipe extractor reads

• The voice-over. Transcribed with Whisper in 50+ languages, so a quantity said out loud is captured.
• The on-screen text. Ingredient overlays and step captions are read from the video frames — many recipe reels never say the amounts at all.
• The caption. When the creator did write the recipe in the caption, it's used too.
• The whole video. The model combines all three into one recipe, so an ingredient shown on screen and a step said out loud end up in the same list.
